Bio-remediation

Bioremediation* is a proven technology with a growing interest for in situ bioremediation* applications due to site and regulatory constraints. In situ bioremediation* is limited by several controlling factors:

1.     Ability of an organism to degrade the contaminant at issue,

2.     Availability of the hydrocarbons to micro-organisms,

3.     Availability of inorganic nutrients, and

4.     A supply of electron acceptors (typically an oxygen source).

To accomplish remediation objectives or overcome the proceeding factors, SuperAll™ #38 has been developed to create an enhanced environment for biodegradation* of hydrocarbon contaminated soil within the undistributed site soils.

SuperAll™ #38 breaks down hydrocarbons into microscopic particles that allow the indigenous bacteria/microbes to digest, therefore destroy, the hydrocarbon contamination more rapidly than other remediation technologies. When SuperAll™ #38 is used as the remediating agent, the bacteria naturally occurring in the evironment are those that degrade the hydrocarbons most efficiently relative to the introduction of imported or cultured micro-organisms. SuperAll™ #38 DOES NOT CONTAIN BACTERIA CULTURES. During the biodegradation process the hydrocarbons will be used as a food and energy source with the consequential end products being carbon dioxide, water, and carbon. The addition of SuperAll™ #38 reduces the adhesive forces among the molecules of the hydrocarbons and allows the material to become surrounded by SuperAll™ #38 and water. The end result is much greater hydrocarbon surface area exposed to the proper conditions for biological degradation.

SuperAll™ #38's indigenous microbial stimulation process has many features that make this method applicable to a broad range of remediation sites such as:

  • Minimal site and site operations disturbance
  • No system installation, thereby allowing remediation to begin immediately
  • No cost of landfilling or the related transportation costs
  • No waste water generated
  • Health and safety exposure minimized
  • Eliminates cost of purchasing and hauling clean backfill
  • Remediation is completed in days and weeks versus months and years


CONCLUSION:
SuperAll™ #38 is the most cost-effective additive to a bioremediation
* project which acts as a stimulant for promoting the breakdown of pollutants to non-toxic components by existing organisms.

 

 

*SuperAll #38 is not NCP listed as a Dispersant or Bioremediation Enhancement Agent, and the use of chemical countermeasures on oil spills requires federal On Scene Coordinator authorization. This authorization is given on a case by case basis.
